Approximately 500 local smallholders deliver cherry directly to the wet mill for processing during harvest. SL28 and SL34 are almost exclusively grown with each smallholder farming around 250 trees each, intercropped amongst other staples such as maize and bananas.

Membership within the Othaya society means that Kiaguthus members benefit directly from the management and social programs implemented by this active cooperative. Membership of the society is however optional; annually a vote is taken by all members of the washing station regarding which society, if any, it wishes to align with.

BREWING GUIDE

Othaya has consistently produced some of our favourite lots. This AA coffee brews exceptionally well as a V60. A dose of 18gm freshly ground coffee, brewed with 280 ml of freshly boiled water over 3 minutes should deliver a crisp, delicate cup. This seasons Kaiguthu is packed full of fresh fruit notes; cranberry and redcurrant notes dominate and are complemented with a rich and vibrant plummy body and a subtle grape and mandarin finish. This brew really opens up as it cools, so take your time and savour!
